Welcome to the Moonkissed Gem and Mineral Creations home page!
The storms have at last arrived (maybe with a little too much gusto!) and at some point, our beaches will expose their gravel, and with that, agates. I'm looking forward to days on the beach, a little spray in my face, looking for the glittering beauties.
Whether you are looking for that special treat for yourself, or a unique gift for your friend or loved one, here you will find wire-wrapped cabochon jewelry, including pendants, earrings and rings. I have found wire and stone to be the medium of my creativity, and want to share my passion with you!
Cabochons are stones that are cut into a shape, rounded and polished. They do not have the flat spots typical of faceted stones. I use a wide variety of colorful stones and other materials in creating jewelry. Many of the stones I use have been hand cut and polished by my best friend (and husband) Bruce. I like interesting and exotic stones, and Bruce particularly likes the picture jaspers found here in Oregon.
Each piece represented here is individual and unique. My creations are all hand-created so there are no two exactly alike! I use my hands and a few small hand tools, no soldering or flame.
I use sterling silver and 14 karat gold filled wires in creating my art. Also known as 14/20, gold fill is a tube of gold filled with a jeweler's base wire for strength and flexibility. It is considered to be an heirloom quality metal, and is durable even with frequent wear. It is also a good value at a price not far from sterling silver.
A brief word about recent gold and silver prices: OUCH! The price of wire has nearly doubled in the last year. I do price using time and materials as a base (not priced as "art" although with some pieces I am tempted). There are some terrific deals on this site, as I have not changed prices on exisiting pieces to keep up with increasing silver and gold costs.
I enjoy creating these pieces, and hope you will find them creative and beautiful. Wire-wrapping is my second vocation and my therapy. I enjoy the creative process, which takes me out of my "left brain" after a day's work. Like most artists, I am learning as I go, and trying new looks and materials and will be expanding my offerings to a wider variety of jewelry pieces in the future. Most of the work I do is referred to as a bezel wrap. I wrap around the edge of the stone. Other wire techniques include wire sculpture, weaving, knitting and beadwork.
